How we work this out

These are prices shops publish themselves: on their own websites, and on the menus and price lists they keep in Counterboard. We take one price per shop for a regular portion of chips and average them by town. Where a shop sells sizes we take the regular one, or the smallest standard size if there is no regular; never a kids’ portion or a deal.

No shop is named, and no single shop’s price list is shown. Prices on delivery apps are left out, because they are usually higher than in the shop, and so are chains. A town gets a page only when we have prices from at least 5 different shops in the last six months. Shops’ prices are read again every few months, and anything older than six months is left out.

The prices on this page were read in October 2026. The middle price is the one half the shops are above and half below.
