Yodeck is the name you will see first: it advertises on every search for a menu on a TV, and it is good at what it is. Counterboard is a different kind of thing. Here is the difference, plainly, so you can pick the right one for your shop.
One screen free, no card. Works on any TV with a web browser, or any TV with an HDMI socket and a streaming stick.
What each one is
General digital signage software. You pick from 800+ templates, lay the board out in a drag-and-drop editor, and build playlists that can mix menus with videos, weather, news and other apps, scheduled through the day. One screen is free; after that it is $8 a screen a month, and a yearly plan comes with a free player box for each screen. It runs on that box, a Raspberry Pi, a Fire TV Stick, or Samsung and LG smart TVs.
A menu board drawn for you. You say what you sell, your prices and the look you want, in your own words, and AI designs the finished board in about a minute: not a template with your text dropped in, a board. When a price changes you say the new one and the board on the wall has it. There is nothing to lay out and nothing to learn. It runs on any TV: a smart TV's own browser, our free app on a Fire TV Stick or Google TV, or any TV with a stick in it.
Where each one wins
See it
You are the designer. You say what you want in your own words: the colours, your name across the top, what goes where. AI designs the finished board in about a minute. Not quite right? Say what to change and it is drawn again. There is no design software to learn, and nobody else trying to guess what is in your head.
Drawn by Counterboard AI from a few words and a price list, and shown exactly as they came back. Try it with your own menu on the front page: it is free and takes about 80 seconds.
What it costs
One screen free. Then $8 a screen a month on the Basic plan (about £6), paid yearly for the free player. Your time: the design, every change, and setting up a player per screen.
One screen free too, with a small counterboard.com band on it, and no card. Without the band £14 a month for one screen, and £7 for each screen after it, with credits included every month. A price change is one credit (£1), a whole new board three. No designer, no design software, nobody to ring.
Any TV you already own. A smart TV needs nothing; an older TV takes a £30 Fire TV Stick. Neither needs a special screen.
What it costs
One screen free, for as long as you like, with a small counterboard.com band on the board, and no card. Without the band, so much a screen: £14 a month for one screen, and £7 for each screen after it. No VAT charged. The price list on the front page shows it in dollars and euros too.
Every screen gets the same dashboard and the same boards; what changes with the price is how many TVs you put up and how many credits come with them. Each TV gets a board drawn for it, free. After that everything we draw is credits, and a credit is a pound: a price change is one, a new look or an item added, taken off or renamed is two, a whole new board is three. A paid plan includes credits every month, and they start again on the 1st; more can be bought inside Counterboard, ten for £9 or more in a bigger pack, with no change to your plan. No contract: cancel any time.
Questions
For a menu board, yes. For general signage with playlists, video and apps across many screens, Yodeck is the better fit and we would say so.
The Yodeck player box only runs Yodeck. Counterboard runs in a smart TV’s browser, in our free app on a Fire TV Stick or Google TV, or any TV with a stick in it.
In September 2026 Yodeck added an AI agent that manages an account by typed instruction: playlists, schedules, users. The board itself is still designed from a template in the editor. Counterboard’s AI designs the board.
Yodeck for one screen, which is free. From two screens the prices are close in money; the difference is the hours. Counterboard asks for none of yours.
Yes. Photograph your current board or type the prices, say the look you want, and the new board is drawn in about a minute. Put it on the same TV.
