Yodeck alternatives for a menu board on a TV or screen

Most people searching for a Yodeck alternative are not after signage software at all. They want their menu on the screen behind the counter, looking designed, with the prices right, and they found that the signage route means an evening in an editor. There are three kinds of alternative. Here they are, plainly.

One screen free, no card. Works on any screen with a web browser, or any screen with an HDMI socket and a streaming stick.

The board of Anatolia Grill, an example kebab and grill, with kebabs, wraps, sides
Drawn by Counterboard AI in about two minutes, from a few words and a price list. Anatolia Grill is an example shop: yours is drawn to your own description, with your name and your prices on it.

The three kinds

Pick the kind before you pick the name

1. Another signage service

ScreenCloud, OptiSigns, NoviSign, Xibo and a dozen more do what Yodeck does: a library of templates, a drag-and-drop editor, playlists and schedules, and a player app or box for each screen, priced by the screen each month. They differ in the editor, the apps and the players they run on. Whichever you pick, the board is still yours to design, and every price change is an edit and a publish.

2. Do it yourself

Design the board in Canva or PowerPoint, save it as a picture, and show it on the screen from a USB stick or the screen’s own browser. Nothing to pay. Every change is the design again, the download again, and a walk to the screen. Fine for a board that never changes; a chore for one that does.

3. A board drawn for you

Counterboard. You say what you sell, your prices and the look you want, in your own words, and AI designs the finished board in about two minutes: a board, not a template with your text dropped in. A price changes? Type the new one on your phone and the screen has it. It runs on any screen: a smart screen’s browser, our free app on a Fire TV Stick, or any screen with a stick in it.

Which one

By what your shop actually needs

  1. One or two screens, a menu or a price list, and no time to designA board drawn for you. The design is the whole job with the other two; here you only say what you want.
  2. Video, news, weather or adverts between the menus, across many screensA signage service. That is what they are built for, and a drawn board is not: a Counterboard screen shows a board, or turns through several.
  3. A board that never changes and no budget at allDo it yourself. A picture on a USB stick costs nothing and needs no account.
  4. Prices that change most weeksA board drawn for you. One typed price, and the wall follows on its own. With the other two, every change is a design job.
  5. A chain or several sitesEither a signage service with workspaces, or Counterboard’s one login over several shops with one board sent to many of them.

What a drawn board looks like

You are the designer. You say what you want in your own words: the colours, your name across the top, what goes where. AI designs the finished board in about two minutes. Not quite right? Say what to change and it is drawn again. There is no design software to learn, and nobody else trying to guess what is in your head.

What it costs

Priced by how many screens you put up

One screen free, for as long as you like, with a small counterboard.com band on the board, and no card. Without the band, so much a screen: £14 a month for one screen, and £7 for each screen after it. No VAT charged. The price list on the front page shows it in dollars and euros too.

Every screen gets the same dashboard and the same boards; what changes with the price is how many screens you put up and how many credits come with them. Each screen gets a board drawn for it, free. After that everything we draw is credits, and a credit is a pound: a price change is one, a new look or an item added, taken off or renamed is two, a whole new board is three. Each paid screen includes two credits a month, and they start again on the 1st; more can be bought inside Counterboard, ten for £9 or more in a bigger pack, with no change to your plan. No contract: cancel any time.

Questions

What people ask

Is Counterboard a Yodeck alternative?

For a menu board or a price list, yes. For general signage with playlists, video and apps across many screens, a signage service is the better fit and we would say so. There is a longer Counterboard or Yodeck comparison.

Which Yodeck alternative is free?

Several signage services have a free screen, and doing it yourself with a USB stick costs nothing. Counterboard’s first screen is free for as long as you like, with a small counterboard.com band on the board and no card.

Can I keep the screen and player I already have?

A smart screen, yes: Counterboard runs in its browser. A Fire TV Stick, yes: install the free app. A signage company’s own player box usually runs only that company’s software.

What is the difference between signage software and a drawn board?

Signage software gives you the tools and a template; you make the board. A drawn board is made for you from your description, and changed for you when you say so.
